First Half 2012 Financials Released by Playtech
Added: September 11, 2012When a major online casino software company like Playtech releases its financial information, everyone in the industry listens up and pays attention. The reason that this information is so important is that it helps to indicate how the industry as a whole is doing. Playtech is one of the two most important online casino software developers in the world, and dozens of online casinos use their software and other products, so their financial numbers are a nice representative sample for the industry overall.
For the first half of 2012, Playtech had €153.8 million in revenues. This is a 101 percent increase over the first six months of 2011, so it's a pretty big deal, and it's something worth getting excited about. As usual, their gross income increased by a slightly smaller amount. With €176.5 million in income during the first six months of this year, their total income increased by a total of 86 percent. Overall, their earnings before taxes and other expenses increased by a total of about 64 percent and were €91.2 million. This type of growth is really great, and it shows that the online gambling industry is going strong.
Playtech Chairman Roger Withers said, "It has been an exciting six months for the company and I am delighted to report that Playtech continues to deliver impressive results. I am particularly pleased that the company complete its move to the main market in early July. Playtech's multi-channel approach strengthens its market-leading position allowing it to maximise the potential for growth in newly-regulating markets in addition to enhancing existing relationships with traditional operators. In the first half of the year we recognized the growing importance of the social gaming sector and positioned ourselves to penetrate the market through innovative licensing arrangements."
Going into the last six months of the year, Playtech's results might not be quite as good. They will have a lot more costs compared to the first half of 2012 when it comes to software innovation, and Spain has been changing how it regulates online gambling. However, Playtech will most certainly continue having great results in the near future because of the tight grip they have on such a large portion of the online gambling industry. With solutions for operators who want online casinos, online bingo rooms, online poker rooms and more, Playtech covers a very large piece of the market.
